BCI Receives Awards

BCI was honored by several awards this past year. The Society for Conservation Biology selected BCI as the recipient of its 1991 Distinguished Achievement Award for an organization. The Society is a multi-disciplinary professional organization dedicated to the study, understanding, and protection of the living diversity of Earth. The awards honor groups and individuals who have made significant contributions to the understanding and protection of biological diversity. An additional honor came from The Wildlife Society, publishers of The Journal of Wildlife Management, who awarded their 1991 Conservation Education Award to Merlin Tuttle for his book, America's Neighborhood Bats.

BCI's documentary film, "The Secret World of Bats," was awarded top honors as the best science documentary of the year in the 8th French Television Festival for Science and Documentary Films. Dieter Plage, internationally renowned wildlife cinematographer, filmed the one-hour documentary, which is anticipated to be aired in the United States on CBS television by spring 1992. Merlin Tuttle served as scientific advisor. The film won wide critical acclaim when it was shown earlier this year in Europe and Australia.
