VOLUME 9, NO. 2 Summer 1991

From time to time, BCI's rapid growth creates the need for equipment and other items to help us function more efficiently. Additionally, staff must attend conservation conferences to carry out our mission. Members may be able to help us meet some of these needs.

For more information, or to make a contribution, please call Linda Rogers at BCI, 512/327-9721.

Slide Projector/Screen
Funds requested for local purchase of projector and screen. Needed by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Republic of Vanuatu (a participant in BCI's 1990 Pacific Island Flying Fox Conference) to raise awareness of the plight of bats that are threatened by over-hunting ($450).

Bat Care
To cover the costs of feeding and maintaining the health of our flying fox bats, Zuri and Abby ($75 for 1 month or $900 for a full year).

Bat "Aviary"
Materials to build a new open-air flight cage to ensure Zuri and Abby the best of comfort between ambassadorial duties (approx. $300).

A journal subscription to the weekly Current Contents, which lists the contents of over 1,000 scientific journals--essential to access current bat-relevant literature ($360 per year).

Special thanks to the following BCI members for their generous donations: Peggy Church, Redmond, Washington, for funds to purchase a new 386 computer; Robert Orr, Redondo Beach, California, and Alberto Roca, Madison, Wisconsin, for two greatly needed dot-matrix printers; and Mary Lou Alley-Crosby, Montesana, Washington, for travel assistance for BCI's Director of Education to attend the annual meeting of the Society for Conservation Biology. We deeply appreciate these contributions.
