BCI Scientific Advisory Board member, Dr. Tom Kunz, recently found the fat content of female Mexican free-tailed bats' milk to be the highest of any terrestrial mammal. Only that of marine mammals is higher. High fat reserves enable especially rapid growth and sustain youngsters during their first foraging flights until they become proficient at catching insects.
